A locally owned gym on Rochester's East side is struggling to stay afloat as it deals with extensive leaking from its roof.
Joe Christiano, the owner of Iron House Gym on Culver Road, said employees walked into their second-floor gym over the weekend to find leaking everywhere.
Christiano said gallons upon gallons of water had fallen from the ceiling onto the floor and gym equipment. The gym is located above Lorraine's Food Factory.
"A band-aid's been put on the problem then it's leaked another place but it's never really poured through," Christiano said. "I mean, we've had issues with leaking, but nothing like this. This is something I can't open. I mean I can't have members in here. I've got electricity with water. We probably shouldn't be standing here right now. Right now we're both personal trainers so if the gym’s not open we make zero and you run the risk of not making a member very happy that's going to go somewhere else."
Lorraine's Food Factory received minor damage. The roofing company was securing the rood Monday morning after it suffered extensive damage.
"In Lorraine's, in the back area of the kitchen, we just had some rain coming down the sides of the walls, said Lorraine Serpe, building owner. "The roof damage is really damaged. It's down to the wood on the roof instead of the rubber on top. The rubber is gone and hitting the compressors upstairs."
Lorraine's will reopen on Tuesday.
Iron House is closed until further notice.
