A popular tourist destination in the Buffalo area is coming to the Rochester area to hopefully replicate its success.

At the New York Beer Project, the mission is simple:

“It says right up here, good beer, good food, good times — we promise,” said owner Kelly Krupski.

After explosive success in Lockport over a short three years, Kelly and her husband Kevin are expanding into the Rochester region.

“This is a spot where families can gather, hang out at big communal tables, eat some food, have some beer and play games.” Krupski said.

The beer garden is more than 15,700 square feet, modelled after the Atlantic Garden of New York City.

“It’s a beer hall that existed in the 1870s," Krupski said. "We wanted it to look old, to kind of be a renaissance, and have some personality.”

And though 18 craft beers of their own will be brewed in house, they’re bringing more to Victor than just that.

They’re also bringing about 165 jobs; with a two-day job fair at the Route 96 Starbucks from 10 a.m to 1 p.m; and 6 p.m to 8 p.m Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Servers, hosts, bartenders, cooks, prep-cooks, dish washers, bussers — we need everybody,” Krupski said.

Stephen Wayne, a former restaurant owner himself, hopes to be one of them.

“This is a great job creation situation which is what a lot of these businesses talk about, but can’t deliver,” Wayne said.

He says NYBP will be dynamic for the area.

“This is going to be big here, I mean why would they build it here?" Wayne said. "Right across from the East View Mall.”

And the Krupskis certainly hope so.

“We just hope it’s a gathering spot for the people of Victor, someplace they can be proud of," Krupski said. "When their family comes in, they can bring them in. We’ll get to know their names very quickly, and just be a really great place to come in."

The beer garden opens Valentine’s Day.
