Build-A-Bear Workshop may be a common place for birthday parties, but the wishes made there are pretty special.

Colton Bach, 8, loves spending his birthdays at Build-A-Bear Workshop with his sister and family.

“It’s fun doing all the bears with his families,” Colton said.

Over his last three birthdays, he’s made nearly 150 bears.

“Tigers, superheroes, queens, turtles," Colton said. "This is like the biggest pile ever.”

But all the bears aren’t for him.

“To give love to children that we’re donating to hospitals around the world,” Colton said.

Instead of gifts, he collects donations and money for the Make a Cure Foundation, that sends the bears to children with cancer.

“He’s helped quite a few kids in three years,” his father, Jeremy Bach, said.

But why this, instead of gifts and laser tag?

“What kid in their right mind instead of toys, is asking to stuff bears?” Jeremy Bach said.

Well for Colton, it’s simple really: His 5-year-old sister Kya was diagnosed with an inoperable spinal cancer at birth, and received a bear herself.

“My wish was to help all the kids who are not feeling good in the world,” Colton said.

At Build-A-Bear, the saying goes, “It’s never too late to have a happy childhood.”

“He has a heart of gold," Jeremy Bach said. "And I hope as he grows, this kind of giving and this kind of heart continues with him.”
