Watertown officials had a look at preliminary project plans for the former site of Mercy Hospital as they continue revitalize downtown Watertown.

Mayor Joe Butler and other city staff met with officials from COR Development, which is redeveloping the site between Stone Street and Arsenal Street. The company is planning to build one- and two-bedroom apartment complexes, office buildings and a community center.

Butler said this project is a big step in revitilizing downtown.

"Your're going to have market-rate housing -- small component, affordable-rate housing. You're going to be building new units in the downtown area. The goal is to bring people to downtown Watertown and this goes a long way in achieving that," Butler said.

COR Developement plans to submit site plans to the city in about six weeks.

The City Council will then have to vote on those plans.
