The Baobab Cultural Center and "Writers & Books" came together Wednesday evening to celebrate the late African American novelist, Toni Morrison, who would have been 89 this week.

Folks enjoyed a roundtable discussion after an evening screening of “In Black and White, Volume 3: Toni Morrison," which is the first video series devoted to the life and work of contemporary African American authors.

"The way that she described African American life was very different than what people had been reading previously,” said Terry Chaka, Baobab Cultural Center Board of Directors.

"She grapples with core issues that have been challenges in our culture, remain challenges,” said Alison Meyers, Writers & Books executive director.

Morrison died last August.
