The Monroe County Board of Elections says it has come up with a ballot box for use during the upcoming elections that it says will hopefully alleviate concerns from people on both sides of the aisle.  

The Fortress Ballot Box is made of aluminum and plastic and has a lock. The total cost of placing boxes at more than 300 polling sites in the county will be $48,307.

The BOE says the Fortress boxes will be $79,000 less than the full-metal boxes they had considered.

Funding for the boxes is coming from the CARES Act.

Voters will see the boxes at the early voting sites in Monroe County starting on October 24 for those who would rather drop them off instead of mailing them in.
