HANALEI, Hawaii — The Kauai Bus will provide a special Hanalei shuttle service on June 5 to accommodate passengers throughout the day as the Hawaii Department of Transportation conducts intermittent road closures on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) between Hanalei Plantation Road and Ohiki Road.
According to HDOT, contractors will be airlifting netting to Hanalei Hill to secure the slope above the highway. During air operations, the area beneath will be closed for safety reasons.
Closures will be done in 30-minute intervals from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. From the top of hour, vehicles will be allowed through the work area until the start of the next 30-minute closure.
During the intermittent openings, the Kauai Bus will operate the free shuttle service for passengers traveling between Princeville and Hanalei with two bus stops in Hanalei and one bus stop near the Princeville Library.
Route 400 (Hanalei to Lihue) and Route 500 (Lihue to Hanalei) will begin/end at the Princeville bus stop on June 5. Passengers on the mainline routes will continue to pay normal bus fares.
See the full schedule of the intermittent closures on June 5 on the HDOT website.
