A local marine killed in action is being remembered in a permanent way in Chautauqua County.

On Friday, officials announced State Route 394 in the Village of Lakewood will now be named “Lance Corporal Aaron M. Swanson Memorial Highway.”

Back in 2011, Swanson was killed in a roadside bomb in Afghanistan during combat operations.

Swanson was a 2007 graduate of Southwestern High School and was enrolled at Jamestown Community College when he enlisted.

Swanson received several awards and decorations including the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, just to name a few.
