Another attempt to have the buildings on South Park Avenue in Buffalo demolished has failed.
Buffalo's Preservation Board addressed an application to demolish the buildings in Buffalo's Cobblestone District during a public hearing on Thursday. The board unanimously denied the request.
The buildings caught fire in June as the city had been trying to save them through eminent domain procedures. Fire officials say the damage was estimated at $1.1 million.
The buildings' owner has said the fire made them unstable and a threat to public safety. The owner was hoping to have the buildings torn down before the fire over the summer, and the fire came just hours after a judge reversed a demolition order for the buildings.
In September, nearly $400,000 was allocated to saving the buildings. Buffalo Common Council approved funding for the emergency stabilization of the buildings; however, city leaders say some smaller parts would need to be torn down to stabilize the properties.
