You don't have to leave the Hudson Valley to try the culinary delights of the world. Twisted Soul in Poughkeepsie, near Vassar College, brings you a mixture of global grub.
"We've been here on Raymond Avenue for about 8 years. The restaurant is primarily built around street food. I do a lot of travelling, so I try to hit the streets of different countries and try to bring back what I think the community would eat. Trying to find the soul cuisine of every country," said Ira Lee, the owner and head chef.
Locals love this eclectic restaurant's menu and its affordable options.
"Creative cooking for under $10. I think the price points and the fact that you can get different varieties of food and the cost is still under $10. I try to think outside of the box a little bit. I try to break down an entree plate and bring it into the price range of under $10," Lee said.
Whether its mac and cheese, a special salad, or you're popping in for a cupcake, you're bound to find something you'll want to try at Twisted Soul.
"Whether it's lamb dumplings or octopus and chick pea empanadas or shrimp and crawfish dumplings, noodle dishes, braised short rib buns, kimchee porkbelly buns, everything is under ten dollars. Hopefully we're offering a couple items that will bring them back that you can't find anywhere else," said Lee.
At the end of your time at the restaurant, the staff and ownership hopes you took in more than just a meal.
"Each plate was created to have a certain flavor of marriage on it and hopefully, that they just have a wonderful dining experience and they see that the value is there and they return and that they leave happy," said Lee.
