Traffic was shut down on the Gowanus Expressway where it meets the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway early Tuesday after debris spilled onto the roadway.
Eastbound lanes were closed at the Hamilton Avenue exit around 5:30 a.m. after piles of plywood fell off a truck traveling toward Manhattan, video showed. The closure continued until around 11 a.m.
The exit connects the roadway to the BQE and the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel.
As crews worked to clear the debris, traffic was rerouted onto nearby service roads, causing delays stretching to the Belt Parkway and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
Drivers were warned to expect residual delays as the roadway reopened.
It remains unclear how the plywood fell off the truck.
