Livingston County prosecutors say John Lander has pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide.

He admitted that his shotgun went off while on a hunting trip, fatally wounding his sister-in-law Sharon Lander.

Lander admitted in court he was not sure the safety on his weapon was on as his group's hunting party wrapped up its November 27th outing in Caledonia.

He said he pulled the shotgun off his shoulder where it got caught, and discharged behind him, hitting Sharon.

Lander faces four months of weekends in jail when he's sentenced June 13.
