Isaacman is known as being an entrepreneur and better known as a commercial astronaut.

The hearing is the next step for Isaacman to becoming NASA’s new administrator. Trump nominated him on Jan. 20, 2025.

In December, after finding out he was unofficially picked to be the nominee, Isaacman posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, where he stated, “We will inspire children, yours and mine, to look up and dream of what is possible. Americans will walk on the Moon and Mars and in doing so, we will make life better here on Earth.”

Reuters was able to obtain a letter from him to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation ahead of the confirmation hearing. The 42-year-old Isaacman wrote that he wants to send Americans to Mars.

"We will prioritize sending American astronauts to Mars. Along the way, we will inevitably have the capabilities to return to the moon and determine the scientific, economic, and national security benefits of maintaining a presence on the lunar surface," he wrote.

By being a billionaire businessman and commercial astronaut, he blends what NASA is trying to do with the commercial space industry by using private companies like SpaceX to launch people to the International Space Station and eventually take humans back to the moon.

He also is known for having led the Inspiration4 mission in 2021, which was the first all citizen space flight.

In 2024, Isaacman participated in the first commercial space walk in the Polaris Dawn mission, meaning he’s essentially the first private citizen to walk in space.

Both of those missions helped raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

He founded the payment processing company, Shift 4, when he was only 16 years old.

The current NASA Acting Administrator Janet Petro is filling in until someone permanent comes along, in this case, Isaacman.

This all comes as Florida leaders are urging NASA officials to make the Sunshine State their new headquarters.

Because to them, everything is here on the Space Coast, from building rockets to launching them into space.
