U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney will win a second term representing New York’s 24th Congressional District, the Associated Press declares.

The Republican lawmaker was defeating Democratic challenger David Wagenhauser in Tuesday’s elections 62.8% to 37.2%, according to the latest unofficial results from AP.

Tenney formerly represented parts of the Mohawk Valley and Southern Tier for two nonconsecutive terms in Congress before shifting to the new 24th District after the redistricting process in 2022.

An attorney, former state assemblymember and businesswoman, Tenney has long been a supporter of Donald Trump and had the backing of the former president, House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Freedom Caucus founding member Jim Jordan, and others.

The 24th District snakes along Lake Ontario’s shoreline from the Thousand Islands to Niagara County, save for the greater Rochester area. Tenney will be sworn in as a member of the 119th Congress in January.

“You can't overregulate and make it impossible for our businesses to thrive and to survive," Tenney said last month. "When you do that, you see a huge job growth. And that's one thing we did see as a result of the tax cuts. As I said, if they expire, we're going to see a real downturn in our economy."

Wagenhauser, who has called himself a moderate Democrat, said he was looking to bring money to the 24th District by promoting more educational and career opportunities.
