Where is the debate?

Haris and Trump will square off at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, marking the first time the two will face off on a wide variety of issues.

Who is moderating?

ABC News “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir and “Prime” anchor Linsey Davis will moderate the debate.

What are the rules?

Harris and Trump have both agreed to the same rules as the debate in June between Trump and President Joe Biden on CNN. The microphones for each candidate will be muted unless the candidate is speaking.

Neither candidate will present an opening statement. They will have two minutes to answer the moderators’ questions, two minutes for rebuttals and another minute for clarifications or follow-ups.

Trump will give the final closing statement of the debate — a position he won in a coin toss that also determined the candidates’ stage positions. Harris will appear at the lectern on the right side of viewers’ screens.

The candidates will not be allowed to ask each other questions directly. Neither candidate is allowed to bring notes written in advance or props on stage. They are, however, allowed to have a pen, notepad and bottle of water.

During commercial breaks, the candidates are not allowed to interact with campaign staff.

The debate will not have an audience.

How long is the debate?

The debate will last 90 minutes. Including two commercial breaks, the debate will end at 10:30 p.m. Eastern.

Is another debate scheduled?

The Harris campaign said last month the Trump campaign accepted its proposal for three debates, which also includes an October debate between Harris and Trump and a vice presidential debate. Trump had proposed two additional debates against Harris in September. At this time, a second Harris-Trump debate has not been scheduled.

Vice presidential nominees Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Sen. JD Vance will debate Oct. 1 in New York. CBS News will host the vice presidential debate with moderators Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan.
