Governor Andrew Cuomo is slamming the federal government after finding it is canceling a major health care grant.

He says it will cost the state about $600 million this year alone.

The governor, though, was not only taking issue with this decision. Cuomo says it's part of a pattern from the federal government to punish New York as a liberal state.

He listed the recent controversy over the Trusted Travelers Program, the changes to state and local tax deductions, and blocking of funds for the MTA as other instances of political plays against New York.

"I've never seen politics to this extreme. I've never seen government through a self-serving political lens like this, but that's what it is," Cuomo said. "At some point, it has to stop. And the line in the sand has to be health care."

The federal health care grant was initially won in 2014 for a total of $8 billion. The announcement is even more concerning this year since the state is working to make up a massive budget shortfall, and the solution is finding savings in the state's Medicaid program.
