The race for Ulster County's district attorney position is heating up.

After previously going unchallenged in the 2016 race, incumbent Holley Carnright will face a challenge from Democrat David Clegg, a local lawyer.

Clegg lost the 19th congressional district primary to now-Congressman Antonio Delgado this past election cycle.

But he gained wide support in Ulster County.

Clegg says several key issues sparked his desire to run.

"Mass incarceration, restorative justice, trying to stop the disproportionality in our criminal justice system. I've been working in that area for most of my career and this is finally a moment where I can do something about it,” he said.

Clegg was joined at his announcement by County Executive Mike Hein and Kingston Mayor Steve Noble, among others.
