MILWAUKEE — While the Milwaukee Brewers are gearing up for the first home game of the season, Alex Beronja is preparing for his first home game as executive chef.

“I started as a sous chef in the clubs,” said Beronja. “I was doing team food and all the speciality clubs. It was great. Moved to concessions and learned that. Then kept moving up and took the executive chef position this year.”

As a life long Brewers fan, he’s excited to step into this new role and create new food for fans to enjoy. One of the new creations is an enchilada dog.

“You think hot dog and burger but we take those and bring new flavors to it,” said Beronja.

He encouraged fans to step outside of the typical ballpark food and try something the ballpark is offering new this year, such as a Cubano or an Italian Sausage Calzone at the food trucks in The Alley.

Fans can also get their hands on new Brewers gear. Not only will there be home opener merchandise, but the team has also released pieces to honor the late Bob Uecker, a longtime Brewers broadcaster.

“In February we launched the patch that players are wearing on the field,” said Shaun Marefka, Brewers retail and restaurant operations senior director. “You can stop by our store and we can apply that patch on a jersey you have or we sell in the store. On Monday we launched the Uecker collection, we collaborated with the family and the proceeds will go to charity.”

Uecker’s presence will be missed by all this season.

Josh Maurer is a Brewers radio play-by-play broadcaster. He had the opportunity to work alongside "Mr. Baseball" for the past four years.

“Every time we’re wearing a microphone and calling Brewers baseball, we’re going to be thinking of Bob and thinking of the legacy he established on the Brewers Radio Network and the way he did things both on and off the mic,” said Maurer. “We need to carry that tradition.”

His legacy will be on display during Monday’s game and throughout the season.

“We’re wearing a patch on the jersey for every game,” said Rick Schlesinger, Brewers president of business operations. “We’re going to have a moment of silence for Opening Day and a special day. We’re going to have a special celebration of life here later this summer.”
