MAHONING VALLEY, Ohio — Stark State College is growing this fall as it prepares to offer in-person and online education opportunities for students.

Stark State already has locations in Stark and Summit counties, but will open in-person classes in Mahoning Valley this year. The college is also offering more than 25 online degrees and certificates for students and expanding partnerships with local K-12 school districts through its College Credit Plus program.

“We are providing Mahoning Valley students, employers and communities a high-quality community college experience, with excellent programs and the most affordable cost, including tuition and fees, in the region,” said Para M. Jones, president of Stark State, in a news release. “We’re working with local employers to prepare talented graduates for in-demand careers in allied health, business, IT and industrial fields.”

Students also have an opportunity to transfer to Stark State through transfer partnerships with Youngstown State University, The University of Akron, Kent State University, The Ohio State University and others. 

The college has seen nearly 3,000 residents from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties enroll in it. For more than six years, Stark State has been located at Campbell City Schools, offering its College Credit Plus classes.

Stark State also partners with Mahoning Valley employers to prepare both the future and current workforces. As part of its expansion, the college will offer in-person medical assisting classes at Campbell City Schools alongside business management and Associate of Arts and Science degrees. 

Next year, Stark State hopes to offer nursing programs to the region. Students can begin taking pre-nursing classes this fall.

“Our goal is to deliver the highest-quality education at the lowest cost for students, employers and communities in the Mahoning Valley,” said Jones. “We do this through excellent associate degree and certificate programs, strong workforce partnerships, low tuition and low or no fees, small class sizes, academic support services and caring faculty.”
