The former Sullivan County Head Start will resume offering some services, reopening centers in Riverside, Waverly and Woodbourne by Thursday.
The center is now called CDI Head Start Serving Woodbourne and Monticello.
This comes after an abrupt February closure of the program caught a number of families off guard. At the time, the program pointed to what it called "unforeseen circumstances," but federal officials blame a mismanagement of funds.
According to the U.S. Health Department, Community Development Institute (CDI) Head Start has been licensed to reopen the centers alongside the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
The programs are working to find a new provider through a grant application process.
Brian McPhillips, a Sullivan County legislator who serves on the county Head Start board, said the county will likely be an applicant in the next year or two.
“It's a step-by-step proces. just to make sure that if we do attempt in the future, that we would put ourselves in a good condition to be an applicant,” he said.
However, some parents are not sending their children back to Head Start.
“I know several parents who I met at the Head Start who are not sending their kids back to the Head Start," Caroline Sylvester said. "Just, they're not providing transportation, and the way that they closed and the way that they opened, the lack of communication, is just a little bit unsettling.”
