Rochester-area health officials are urging people to get vaccinated as flu season arrives.

"It's difficult to predict the severity of influenza, RSV or COVID-19 in any season because we know the season is just starting,” said Commissioner of Public Health for Monroe County Dr. Michael Mendoza. “But it is easy to take preventative steps to greatly improve our chances of a milder season."

Mendoza says everyone 6 months and older, with almost no exceptions, is eligible for the flu and updated COVID-19 vaccines.

He also recommends adults over 60, especially those 75 or older get the respiratory syncytial virus vaccine.
