Throughout the Hudson Valley, widespread periods of heavy rain and storms will impact the region Sunday night and into Monday, with some areas experiencing flooding.

Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in Orange County late Sunday night, after a reported eight inches of rain resulted in widespread flooding, road closures and other storm-related impacts. The governor says her office is in communication with local officials and state agencies are taking part in search and rescue efforts.

"I'm issuing a State of Emergency in Orange County, which has experienced life-threatening conditions due to flash flooding," Hochul said. "We are approaching a critical point in this weather event, and New Yorkers must remain vigilant. Remember: avoid flooded roads, monitor your local forecasts and have an evacuation plan ready if you're in a danger zone."

The Orange County Emergency Management released a notice asking people to send in photos of the flooding to help with damage assessment. You can find the link here. They urge that only serious pictures are sent in.

The Town of Highlands in Orange County has issued a no-travel advisory. Town officials say there are numerous flooded roads, stranded vehicles, water rescues, mudslides, trees and debris. Other closures include the 9 West and New York 218. The Popolopen Bridge is undermined and there are numerous washouts.

Amtrak service has been temporarily suspended between New York City and Albany due to severe weather on the Metro-North Railroad. More information can be found here.

State Police in Rockland County are asking people to avoid the Palisades Interstate Parkway as rain and flood waters batter the area.

Central Hudson reported that as of 9:22 p.m. Sunday, more than 2,600 customers were without power. For the latest power outage numbers, click here.

On the thruway, flooding has closed the northbound entrance ramp at Exit 16.

The rain is expected to quiet down Monday night with drier weather coming in on Tuesday.
