To continue its tradition of fostering musical talent, Bethel Woods announced the launch of Horizon Stage.

“Not every performer at Woodstock was a household name in 1969,” said Eric Frances, CEO of Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. “Having the opportunity to play the festival launched the careers of many musicians. It’s in our DNA to support the next generation of artists, and what better way to get eyes and ears on talent than giving them a stage with thousands of people passing by?”

Musicians on the Horizon Stage are required to have at least 50% original music in their catalog.

Musicians Kali Seastrand and Sean Murray recently graced the Horizon Stage before a recent Josh Groban concert. Both Hudson Valley natives have gone to countless shows at the iconic venue, then found themselves performing and teaching on the grounds.

“Walking on hallowed ground, in giant footsteps, feels great,” said Murray.

“I really enjoyed seeing Santana here,” said Seastrand.

She is also a songwriting instructor for the summer camps, and although she wasn’t at the original festival, she’s able to share the magic with younger music fans.

“The energy is here for sure. That’s why I love teaching here, too. We play Jimi Hendrix on the field for the students when they come and it feels amazing. I feel like he’s looking down at us,” said Seastrand.

Recently, Billboard released a compilation of bucket list locations that should be on shuffle in every music fans schedule. Among the top spots were Abbey Road in London; Dollywood in Tennessee; Motown Museum in Detroit; and Bethel Woods.

Linda Eckers, a volunteer who attended the original festival, now spends her time sharing how special the energy is.

“It was the best experience ever,” said Eckers. “What’s unique about it is still the vibe, the vibe is just still here. It doesn’t leave! It’s just peace and love all the time.”
