If Orange County residents see what looks like a miniature kangaroo bouncing through their neighborhood, authorities ask that they call police right away.

That's right, a wallaby is on the loose, leaving law enforcement to search for a familiar face.

Rocko is a three-foot-tall wallaby that was last seen hopping along Gate Schoolhouse Road.

When told about the missing marsupial, area residents at first thought it was a prank.

“It sounds like a joke,” said Marie Miedema of Orange County. “Yea, okay.”

Goshen Police Officer Jim Post said they were really banking on a sighting.

Post said Rocko made a dash from a holding area at Noah's Park Animal Sanctuary when a worker left a gate open. He hopes Rocko is nearby and follows some familiar sounds and smells.

“His other friends are here — the peacocks and the chicken and the geese," Post said. "They’re pretty loud, so maybe he’ll hear their voices calling him. We’re hoping that Rocko finds his way home at this point.”

As some may already know, police in the Goshen area have been through this before with Rocko. They said when Rocko got loose last year, they found him within hours of his escape.

This time, however, Rocko's been missing for six days.

Police said some neighbors might want to put out bananas and sweet potatoes — Rocko's favorite foods — to see if he responds.

“Don’t try to capture him yourself because he’s very fast, and you won’t be able to keep up with him going through the woods," Post said. "He’ll just get scared and run away.”

Anyone who spots Rocko is asked to immediately call Goshen police, who will work with Rocko's handlers to safely corral him.
