Brick by brick, the finishing touches are being put on the Legoland New York theme park.

“We are creating the ultimate Lego Theme Park experience here in Goshen for kids ages 2 to 12, and the whole family," said Matt Besterman, public relations manager for the park.

Legoland opened its gates for the first time Wednesday, giving visitors a taste of the theme park ahead of its official summer opening.

This day has been years in the making, a project that was opposed by some in the community, who saw it as an environmental concern. Now, the newest attraction for the Hudson Valley is only weeks away from having its first guest.

But when opening day comes, it turns out the park won't open all at once.

“This is to really make sure we comply with social distancing, comply with New York State guidelines. So we’ll be opening various sections of the park and gradually expanding our capacity," Besterman said.

The 150-acre park features seven Lego-themed lands with a variety of classic and brand new Lego rides. Lego says the rides, and the entire park, are designed to inspire creativity.

"In theory, if you come to Legoland, you can see a building. If you’ve got the right pieces at home, you can create those buildings.”

Lego says it's looking forward to opening its newest attraction, especially as more people are getting vaccinated.
