Jasmin Nicole Davis, a lifelong resident of the city of Poughkeepsie, is the newest city chamberlain, a position that is most crucial in ensuring city business can run smoothly and efficiently.

"The city chamberlain’s office is responsible for keeping all of the vital records and record keeping for the city of Poughkeepsie," she said.

What You Need To Know

  • The city chamberlain prepares agenda items for  public meetings, and handling marriage license applications and other vital records

  • Davis was most recently assistant marketing director for the Poughkeepsie Galleria and is a graduate of Long Island University

  • She is a 2020 Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce “Forty Under 40” Award Recipient

She’s the second Black woman to ever hold the position, an honor that she says isn’t lost on her. Before being elevated to this position by the city’s Common Council, she worked as assistant marketing director for the Poughkeepsie Galleria Mall. From her years of experience in public relations, she says one of her top priorities while in office, is to ensure city records are digitized.

"Making it more efficient so that we can look up records, easier, quicker, when residents come in and are in need of information. From genealogy reports to marriage transcripts," she said.

She was appointed to the position by Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison in early March.

"She has so many good attributes that a chamberlain and someone who is gonna be interacting with the public has. I’ve known that since I met Jasmin through the Regional Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program," Mayor Rolison said.

Common Council meetings depend heavily on her work.

"A lot of preparation goes into the common council meetings. We have to put together the agenda with the help of the chairperson of the common council as well as distribute it city hall wide," Davis said.

A full circle moment for a young Jasmin, who looked forward to serving her city in a meaningful way.

"I absolutely love the city of Poughkeepsie. I’m very very proud to be from Poughkeepsie. I’m a Dutchess County girl, a Hudson Valley girl. I’m very very happy to serve my city," she said.
