Thursday was Opening Day for Major League Baseball. So Yankees fans caught the Metro-North train in Beacon to head into the Bronx for the big game.
With Yankees Stadium opening at just 20 percent capacity this year, the crowded platform you'd normally see looked a lot different than years' past. But Yankee fans we talked to are just happy to be back.
"Ready to get this season started, ready for COVID to be done, just ready to enjoy life again," said Yankees fan Michael Victor.
Alex Dobrzenski and his brother drove all the way down from the Syracuse area to catch the Hudson line train to Yankee Stadium.
What You Need To Know
- Yankee Stadium is welcoming back fans at 20% capacity for Opening Day
- Metro-North added a special shuttle train from Grand Central to keep customers safe and comfortable during their trip to Yankee Stadium
- Masks are required on all Metro-North trains
As a season pass holder, Dobrzenski usually attends 20 to 30 Yankees games a year, but because of COVID-19, he missed Opening Day last year.
"Honestly, I couldn’t sleep really last night, I'm pretty excited," Dobrzenski said. "It'll be pretty cool to see people again, and being able to cheer."
In order to get into the stadium, all fans had to prove they are fully vaccinated, or show proof of a negative COVID test. For Dobrzenski, these new rules were worth it.
"Absolutely, I would’ve done anything. You could’ve given me any protocol. I would’ve done it to go," said Dobrzenski.
Metro-North said it doesn't expect much crowding on the trains this year.
"Just based on the ridership that we're currently seeing, as well as the trains that we’re adding, were going to have plenty of room for our customers, but we're going to keep an eye on things," said Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi.
Metro-North added a special shuttle train out of Grand Central to prevent any crowding, and masks were required for all riders.
Despite the changes, fans are still here for one thing: A win for the Yankees.
