Seasoned Gives is a nonprofit organization promoting entrepreneurship in the Black community.
"It’s really just providing a foothold for our children, for our youth, for our people to see that it is possible, because for so many of us, we don’t believe that it is," said Tamika Dunkley, co-founder and CEO of the organization.
The nonprofit hosted a virtual conversation on Sunday themed 'Circulation of our Dollar,' to drive home the importance of business ownership.

"It’s about really understanding what money is, how it works, and how you can utilize it to influence the economy and really make a change in your communities," she said.
Local business owners held presentations about developing business acumen and making local investments.
"We saw that there was a huge gap in knowledge, in access to capital, in understanding of how money works, how to attain it and how to address the needs in our community," she said.
Thus, the creation of the organization. It's the non-profit arm of Seasoned Delicious, a gourmet food brand in Kingston. They also run a mentorship program, helping to guide budding local entrepreneurs. Siobhan DuPont, owner of the Little Garden of Eat'n food truck business, is a beneficiary of the initiative.
"I’m excited for the future of my business, knowing that I have an excellent guide to look up to, and that is honestly priceless," said DuPont.
That, in turn, has inspired her to give back as well.
"I wanna be able to spread knowledge and wisdom because that is honestly the real currency to me. That needs to circulate just like the dollar as well," she said.
The organization will continue to facilitate events like these throughout the year, encouraging the community to take a leap of faith into business ownership.
