When singer/songwriter Christine Dominguez’s classmate asked her to help co-write the 2010 international hit “Airplanes,” never did she think she would receive her first Grammy nomination, garnishing her the honor of being called a Grammy Nominee.

What You Need To Know

  • Christine Dominguez helped cowrite the 2010 international hit “Airplanes,” which features B.o.B. and Hayley Williams from Paramore

  • She recorded the vocals and helped shape the melody on the original version

  • The remix, “Airplanes, Part 2,” brought forth by rapper Eminem, received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals

“One of my classmates, was also a co-writer on the song, and I graduated, we stayed in touch, he went off to Cornell, and met a producer, started working with him, and at some point they sent me an email with a few song ideas or tracks, you know, and wanted me to collaborate,” says Dominguez.

She recorded the vocals and helped shape the melody on the original version. It made its way to Atlantic Records and was given to the label's recording artist B.o.B. and featured Hayley Williams from Paramore. It eventually made its way to rapper Eminem who wanted to record the remix “Airplanes, Part 2” which received the nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.

“When I wrote that song, I was recording in my apartment in the Bronx on a $20 microphone from Best Buy, and that is how I tracked Airplanes. That is the version that Atlantic Records fell in love with,” says Dominguez.

She has been singing since she was 3-years-old. Her first time performing in public was in the choir at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Newburgh where she was raised.

“I think if I didn't grow up in Newburgh, I wouldn't have this urban influence, you know, like that soul,” says Dominguez.

Since receiving the Grammy nomination Dominguez has been writing and producing her own songs releasing her first full-length solo project Soul Shake independently in 2018.

Dominguez continues to write and sing here in the Hudson Valley. She’s releasing her latest song “Hookah Boy” in January. You can hear her music on all streaming platforms.
