Celebrating Halloween in 2020 is going to be a little tricky but the staff at Hudson Highland Nature Museum in Cornwall are hard at work to make sure their annual “I SPY” nature trail scavenger hunt goes on but with a little twist.

What You Need To Know

  • The Fairy Tale Forest where classic storybook characters live has fallen under a curse

  • Visitors to the trail will have to find ingredients on the trail to help reverse the curse

  • Kids will receive a treat at the end of the scavenger hunt

“The theme of this year's trail year is the Fairy Tale Forest, and a curse has hit and all of these habits of the Fairy Tale Forest,” said the museum’s marketing manager Joanna Marvel. “They've all been affected by this curse. So they need your help.”

Because of the pandemic they decided instead of the usual spooky and creepy theme with headstones they would go a little lighter.

“The witch from Hansel and Gretel will be here to welcome everyone to the trail,” Marvel said.

Visitors to the trail will make 10 stops where they'll meet characters from classic fairy tales like Dorothy and Cinderella. They will then have to find ingredients needed to help break the curse and once the curse is broken the kids will get a treat of their own.

“We figured it was important to not only get kids outside, but to have them have fun and to have as normal a Halloween as possible,” Marvel said.

She says they’ve taken steps to make sure everyone stays safe while they are on the trail like requiring everyone to wear a mask and maintain a social distance.

“We're going to have smaller groups this year that have pre-registered, they'll only be 25 people allowed on the, the trail at a time,” Marvel said.

During a regular year the Halloween scavenger hunt at the museum attracts hundreds of people but this year because of the pandemic restrictions and precautions to keep everyone safe the event has already sold out.

The hope is by next Halloween, everyone will be able to enjoy this fun filled spooky event.
