Orange County confirms 58 new cases of COVID-19 since Wednesday, 27 of them in the town of Palm Tree, which contains Kiryas Joel.
"So again, that's a big contrast. Twenty-seven in the town of Palm Tree, and then going down to city of Newburgh at seven, and then Middletown at five, and then it gets spread out amongst the rest of the county," said Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus.
Neuhaus says the county's grand jury is shutting down for two weeks after a member tested positive. Thirty-five people are currently hospitalized in connection with COVID-19 in the region.
Additionally, in his update Thursday, Neuhaus said he was also notified of mass layoffs at a transportation business.
He didn't name the business, but says more than 70 Orange County residents are losing their jobs.
"I'm going to do a job fair October 15 and 16. I'm going to get some details to you in Newburgh and Middletown. It'll be a drive-through job fair. Just bear with me. I know it's not like a typical one in the past, but we'll be able to walk you through it," said Neuhaus.
