As a first respond on 9/11, he says that day when he was called in, he'll never forget.

"We went down to the World Trade Center and worked for days and days and that just turned into months and then, it was a long time," Dorrmann said.

Hundreds of first responders, community members and political leaders came together Friday for Washingtonville's annual 9/11 ceremony to honor Dennis Devlin, Bobby Hamilton, Mark Whitford, Gerry Nevins and Glenn Perry, five late firefighters from Washingtonville who responded that dreadful day.

"Things like this, it's kind of a notch in your belt to make it one more year here. But for the guys that didn't, you know it's kind of why we come here and remember them every day," Dorrmann said.

Back in July, the memorial was vandalized and people came together quickly to repair it.

"We had some vandalism earlier this year, the flagpole behind me was cut down but it was replaced, and we just have a very strong community in Orange County," says Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus.
