Sullivan County District Attorney Meagan Galligan and other law enforcement have announced a major drug bust in the region on Monday.
Galligan says one Fallsburg woman is being charged with a Class A drug felony following an investigation that uncovered more than 400 grams of cocaine being trafficked from Honduras to New York through cowboy boots.
In Liberty, law enforcement seized more than one and a half tons of marijuana, with one arrest made so far in connection.
Galligan noted the importance of busts like these on Overdose Awareness Day.
“I’m here today to underscore the commitment of my office, together with my law enforcement partners, to connecting those who need help with the resources they need to overcome this disease. And holding those who prey upon addicts by distributing deadly substances into our neighborhoods, accountable and responsible for their actions,” said the DA.
These arrests are following the death of two Fallsburg residents last month from the use of cocaine laced with fentanyl.
There have been 22 reported overdose deaths in Sullivan County so far this year.
