AUSTIN, Texas - A slight risk of severe storms includes the threat of lightning, hail, heavy downpours, and high winds both Wednesday and Thursday with a cold front on the way.

Ahead of it, we're feeling some summer-like heat. The forecast calls for a high of 92, which would tie today's record high at the Airport (from 1986) and get us really close to the metro record of 93 (2011.)

And with abundant humidity, it could feel more like upper 90s out there. Make sure you're staying hydrated and keeping cool.

The environment is ripe for storms, and that's exactly what our in-house Futurecast model says could blossom during the late afternoon to evening hours. Today's activity should be fairly isolated but, again, where storms form, they could go strong to severe in a hurry. It's an overall 30 percent rain/storm chance. Make sure you park your car under a carport or in a garage, if possible, to protect from possible hail.

On Thursday, odds jump up to 60 percent as a weak cold front pushes into the area through the day. Look for highs closer to 80.

Cooler winds will make it feel more comfortable as we wrap up the week, with temps back to 70s Friday through Sunday.

An upper-level disturbance will be moving in from the west, helping to activate more rounds of showers and storms into the first half of the weekend. As of now, the Friday rain chance is 50 percent and odds are slightly higher at 60 percent for Saturday.

By Easter Sunday, the disturbance will be moving away from the Lone Star State, leaving some drier more stable air in place. We expect sunshine to break out in abundance for the second half of the weekend.

A weak polar cold front is timed to arrive late Sunday night, bringing cooler-than-normal weather to Austin for the start of next week.
