Sonisha Alcide is a first-generation American and her husband Alson Watson is an immigrant from Jamaica. The two met while serving in the military when they were stationed in South Carolina, and they've been inseparable ever since.

The couple, along with their daughter Ava, is getting ready to move into a home in Ulster County gifted to them by Operation Homefront, an organization that gives newly renovated homes to veteran families across the country, mortgage-free.

"I saw that there was a house two hours away from our house and I'm like 'this is a sign, I got to sign up for this.' This is just one thing that we always thought we would have to wait a while to see happen for us," said Alcide.
