Driving past the hustle and bustle of Bethel this weekend, there’s a little town just off Route 17B that's hosting a very special Woodstock Anniversary celebration.

“We are located just 12 miles away from Woodstock and a couple of our musicians actually played in the original Woodstock," said Irene Nickolai, one of the organizers of Callicoon’s first Porchfest.

There are 50 local musicians playing on various porches and stoops throughout downtown.

Shlomo Franklin is one the musicians performing this year. He grew up in Bethel and said living just down the street from Woodstock breeds a certain type of musician.

"You're raised with a certain amount of reverence of music and great performances and the magic that music can create," Franklin said.

In addition to music there's food, shopping and really the chance to explore this quaint little town while supporting local businesses.

"I just hope that it helps the local economy. I hope the towns around here find a way to capitalize on it because a lot of our towns are really struggling," Franklin said.

Organizers said the performances also serve as an alternative to the concerts at Bethel Woods this weekend.

"Bethel Woods has closed off ticketing and such and it’s hard for some people to get in so this is an alternate venue for people to come and celebrate Woodstock," Nickolai said.

Performances continue all the way until Sunday night. A full list of performers is available here.
