A man was killed in a state trooper-involved shooting on Interstate 84 overnight in Orange County.
According to New York State Police, authorities responded to a call for a disabled vehicle around 2 a.m. Thursday near exit 5 close to the town of Montgomery.
Officials were told that a car was parked in the middle of the roadway and that a person was walking along the road about half a mile away.
When two state troopers responded, they said the individual was not cooperative and, at one point, made a sudden move to try to get inside the police cruiser. At that point, one of the troopers fired his weapon at him.
The suspect died shortly afterward. I-84 was briefly shut down for an investigation.
Neither the names of the suspect or the troopers have been released at this time.
Troopers will conduct an administrative investigation of the incident with the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
