GOSHEN, N.Y. — Sunday in Goshen, pipers and drummers from across the Northeast competed in the Goshen Pipe and Drum challenge.

Bands from the Hudson Valley as well as New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania showed their skills for the judges.

It's the fifth year for the event held at Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Goshen.

The event was started by local group Firefighter McPadden Pipes and Drums band, who say its a way to bring the spirit of competition to Orange County.

"One of the things thats unique about it is that it's really focused on competitors as the audience," said the pipe major and event organizer. "We don't have a tremendous number of spectators but we have a large number of family supporters and bandsmen that come out."

Four judges score the bands and the one with the lowest score in their grade wins. Bands are evaluated on piping skills, drumming skills and overall performance.
