A teen is behind bars in Orange County after police say he made a terroristic threat toward his school.

Brendan Vaughan, 18 of Campbell Hall, has been charged with one count of making a terroristic threat, which is a felony. He has also been charged with two counts of falsely reporting an incident, which are misdemeanors.

The Washingtonville Police department says Vaughan made credible threats against Washingtonville High School, where he goes to school. Washingtonville's principal said the student posted these threats on social media.

Police say over the weekend they, along with other departments and the FBI, searched the teen's home. Based on the search and Vaughan's statement, investigators say they believe he was in the planning stages of an attack on the school.

Parents Spectrum News spoke to say they're relieved nothing happened at the school, but some had different reactions.

"My initial feeling was more worry, when you realize it can acutally happen to you and be that close to home. Not just the same school district but around the block," said parent Joan Goldberg.

"My initial reaction is why did he do it? How is his family? The kid is asking for help, he needs help," said Eric Osborn.

District officials say there is more security and the high school is safe, but could not speak with us on camera because of pending litigation. Police say the criminal investigation is still active.
