A violent takedown of a Poughkeepsie bar patron by a the bar's bouncer is under investigation.

The incident -- captured on video and viewed more than a million times on various platforms -- happened at about 10:30 Thursday evening at Milo's Cantina on Main Street.

The patron is identified by his friends as Mike Boyce, the owner of Queen City Tattoo -- about three blocks away from Milo's. Boyce's wife said on social media that Boyce was trying to go to his car to get cash to pay his bar tab, when the bouncer used force.

The three-and-a-half-minute video begins with a woman who claimed to be the manager and the bouncer yelling at Boyce, apparently about his bar tab. Then, as Boyce attempts to walk toward the exit, the bouncer threw Boyce to the floor and put him in a chokehold.

"I'm going to put you to sleep ... Calm your [expletive] down," the bouncer yelled.

Halfway through the video, the person shooting the video is kicked out by the manager, who then locked the door. Video shot through the front windows shows the bouncer kneeing Boyce three times while Boyce was on the floor, beneath the bar.

At the 3:05 mark, the bouncer appears to take something out of Boyce's pocket and put it on the bar.

In a statement, Poughkeepsie Police said the dispute over the bar tab was apparently what led to the bouncer using force. Police also said "there is an allegation of a knife being involved."

Jonna Spilbor, the attorney representing Milo's, said she hopes the public does not immediately assume Boyce was completely innocent.

Spilbor said the bar's bouncer, manager and owner have been receiving "a tremendous amount of very negative email as well as death threats which we are not going to tolerate."

"All we're asking is for the public to make sure they do not rush to judgement," Spilbor said in an interview Tuesday outside Milo's. " ... Before anybody goes crazy and goes off half-cocked, we'd like everybody to stand down, wait for all the evidence to come out, and then the public can make its own judgement and do whatever they want."

When asked whether the bouncer is still employed, whether she believes the staff acted appropriately and if she is preparing for Milo's to be sued, Spilbor declined to be specific since the incident is still under investigation.

"No lawsuit has been filed against Milo's," Spilbor said. "No lawsuit should be filed against Milo's. I doubt any lawsuit will be filed against Milo's. But if a lawsuit is filed against Milo's, it will be public information."

Boyce, reached by Facebook Messenger on Tuesday, said he has "been told to not really go over details of the situation," and is holding off on commenting any further on the advice of his attorneys.

As of Tuesday evening, no charges had been filed in this case.
