The tornado that touched down in eastern Orange County back in May caused widespread tree damage that experts are still working to clear away three weeks later.

Now that roads are clear and trees are off of homes and cars, the focus is on cutting down trees that were damaged beyond repair and could present a threat to buildings.

Tree experts say they've been busy assessing damage across the region and phones have been ringing off the hook. Hard-hit areas like the town and city of Newburgh still have extensive tree damage causing crews to work overtime.

"For the last 30 years as an arborist, I've seen ice storms where tree limbs have been broken, a few blown over trees, said Jim Presutti, an ISA certified arborist who owns Hudson Valley Horticultural Services. "But nothing to the caliber of this, of this tornado. Nothing."

Experts say with the amount of damage, it could be months before all of the fallen and damaged trees are cut down.
