POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Dutchess County Jail has been named one of the most problematic correctional facilities in the state.

The finding was a part of a report issued by the State Commission of Correction, detailing the most problematic facilities in the state. The report cited, among other things, two suicides that took place at the jail, in 2011 and 2014.

Dutchess County Undersheriff Kirk Imperati said that he agrees that jail representatives missed signs in the past, but they have taken steps to make sure jail staff recognize warning signs going forward.

Activists said they are not satisfied with that response.

"One Dutchess County jail inmate suicide is too many, and there has been quite a few over the last decade, and it's shameful," said Dutchess County Legislator Joel Tyner.

Tyner added there needs to be a public hearing on the issues cited in the report.
