Saint Luke's Cornwall Hospital is partnering with Montefiore Health System.
Saint Luke's has two campuses: one in Newburgh and one in Cornwall. Montefiore has campuses across the lower Hudson Valley, in New York City, and also has medical schools in its network. The two medical care centers have joined to share services that the other may not offer. The heads of the health care systems say the collaboration will help them better care for patients.
"We can't be all things for all people. We cannot do lung transplants here, nor will we ever," said St. Luke's Cornwall President and CEO Joan Cusack-McGuirk. "We cannot do open heart surgery. So at that point in time, we have our partners. White Plains Hospital, the mothership, Monefiore, or anyplace the position directs the patient to go."
"I just think we need to lead the way, we need to change this health care system," said Montefiore President and CEO Dr. Steven Safyer, "and it's not just pontificating about it, it's actually doing it, and we will do it together."
Including both St. Luke's Cornwall campuses, Montefiore has 11 hospitals with more than 3,200 beds.
