The Town of Lloyd Police department is handing out bracelets to support people with Alzheimer's disease.

The free purple bracelets will be engraved with identification information, such as name and emergency contact. This will make it easier for emergency responders to reunite lost Alzheimer's patients with their families.

B and L Jewelers from New Paltz is paying for the cost of the engravings on the bracelets.

"Everyone knows someone in their family or friends that has Alzheimer's," said Lloyd Police Lieutenant James Janso. "Five million people live with it daily, and it's the sixth[-most likely] cause of death in the United States. So it's here and it really impacts not only the person, but the family. Anything we can do to help the family and the person, we are going to do."

The department is starting with 50 bracelets and hopes to see the program grow.
