ROSENDALE, N.Y. -- The heat Thursday climbed to the 90s and felt like nearly 100-degree weather. But residents and campers found a way to cool off at the newly renovated Town of Rosendale pool.

"It's absolutely great," said Rosendale Camp Assistant Director Ashlee Houghtaling. "This is my eighth year here, so I was here through no pool, I was here through the old pool and it’s absolutely great having the pool back."

The pool was closed since 2012 and opened again in July. Ulster County was placed under a heat advisory Thursday, and camp counselors say the pool opened up just in time. They say they're ensuring that the children stay hydrated while they play in the heat.

"We always make sure they drink every 15 to 20 minutes. They always stop for a drink," Houghtaling said.

"We have a slip n' slide and we have a bunch of other activities that we play,” said Rosendale Camp Counselor Cortny Briggs.

But they say the high temperatures don’t seem to faze the campers.

"They all get to play together and they get to play their games," Houghtaling said. "They play a lot of Marco Polo, they play sharks and minnows. They play all the pool games and they love it."

The Rosendale Swimming Pool is open to the public through Labor Day.
