SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- A local man is using the sun to get around on the water in Saratoga Springs.
Loris Arnold's pontoon boat is completely solar powered.
He built it himself, adding the solar panels, batteries and wiring.
The solar panels charge a battery which powers the electric motor, a refrigerator and even a radio.
Arnold says he is planning to launch a long trip on the boat soon.
"I'm getting close to have everything ready to launch the boat in the Hudson River in Schuylerville and then I will ride south and get on the Erie Canal and I'll be sleeping on the boat and eating on the boat," Arnold said.
Arnold says the battery will last about half a day without being recharged, but as long as the sun is out the motor will keep running.
