A Capital Region favorite will serve fish fries for the last time Saturday as they close their business for good. Bob and Ron's Fish Fry is closing. On its Facebook page, it cites the minimum wage increase as one of the reasons for closing. Jorja Roman spoke with customers enjoying their last fish fry about what they'll miss most about Bob and Ron's.

LATHAM, N.Y. -- It’s the last time customers will hear, “What can I get for you?” at Bob and Ron’s Fish Fry.

“We’re heartbroken. We really are,” said co-owner Christine Zonca.

Many people know of Bob and Ron’s Fish Fry from their Albany location on Central Avenue. That closed last November and now customers are sad to hear that their Latham location will be closing as well.

“I think it’s a shame. I really do,” said James Parnell, a Bob and Ron’s customer.

“Oh my God it’s the best fish fry ever. They’re so good. I can’t believe they’re closing,” Pattie Barone, a regular customer, said.

The Zonca’s took over the business about seven years ago. They opened the Latham location in May 2014 with hopes it would do just as good as the Albany location, if not better.

“The business just didn’t follow the location enough to warrant us staying past our two year lease that we initially started here,” Zonca said. “This isn’t the direction that we thought it would take.”

While they’re sad to close the doors, they never know when a new one might open.

“The business did not sell, we’re not changing hands so if something were to come along that was the right fit, we certainly would entertain it,” Zonca said.

But until then, customers of Bob and Ron’s will be searching for a new favorite fish fry.

“I drive from Rotterdam. He’s got the best fish fry and fried scallops. It’s always fresh. I’m sad to see him close. I’m going to miss it,” Barone said.
