The Ulster County SPCA is offering a "buyers beware" to people who are looking to adopt a new furry friend this Easter.
It says rabbits do require quite a bit of maintenance, including medical, dietary and social needs. Every Easter, they see several people looking to adopt rabbits, many of which end up right back at the SPCA.
"At least think it through," said Head Veterinary Technician Brad Schoonmaker. "Do your research, look it up, see if you're able to care for one, if you've got the kind of time it takes if you are interested in doing that. But research it before you jump head-first into adopting a rabbit. It's a living creature; it's not any different than a dog or a cat."
Schoonmaker says there is only room to house about 25 to 35 rabbits at the Ulster County SPCA.
