RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- The Town of Rhinebeck Supervisor says the town will try to meet with Frontier Communications to find out what can be done about the number of utility poles in the town.
Supervisor Elizabeth Spinzia says Central Hudson Gas and Electric put up new poles throughout the summer and fall seasons to cut down on blackouts. The town expected that when the new poles went up, Frontier Communications would co-locate its cable lines on to Central Hudson Poles and now Spinzia says residents have been complaining to the town that this hasn’t been done.
"We specifically got a letter from one resident on Sleak Quarry Road who has a Frontier pole approximently 5 feet from a Central Hudson pole and a low hanging wire over his vegetable garden. So we've had a lot of letters and citizens contacting us to see if we can help," said Spinzia
The problem, Spinzia says, is that more poles equals more tree trimming and there is a clutter of poles in the town.
"Frontier evaluates any service delivery change in terms of whether the associated costs to implement that change will improve the service delivery process. In this specific instance, there would be no service delivery improvement to our customers," said a representative of Frontier Communications.
