GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. -- Police said the person behind the wheel of a stolen truck drove the wrong way Monday on Interstate 190, smashing several vehicles and shutting down traffic for some time.
Town of Tonawanda police officers tried to pull over a truck with Ontario plates on Sheridan Parkside Drive around 1 p.m. Monday.
Police said the driver went through a red light and began heading north on 190 at Grand Island Boulevard, then exited at River Road. Police said the driver took a few turns and re-entered the 190, but this time was heading north in the southbound lanes.
Officers say the truck got wedged between a semi-truck and a minivan on the South Grand Island Bridge, causing traffic to come to a halt. At least four vehicles were damaged. Police say there were no injuries.
The incident stopped traffic on that part of the 190 for about 45 minutes.
The name of the suspect is not being released yet, and police are still determining the charges.
